Holding a fair trial for the trial of terrorist criminals leads to the strengthening of peaceful coexistence in societies

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the International Day of Remembrance and Contribute of Victims of Terrorism, held a meeting on the topic of ISIS crimes against Yazidis, Turkmen and Iraqi Christians.

 

Claudio Cordone, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Political Relations and Electoral Assistance in Iraq, stated in this meeting, terrorist acts in Iraq against various groups reached their peak in 2014 and all ethnic groups, including the Yazidis included

The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Iraq further said that ISIS has been defeated, but it is still considered a serious danger in Iraq and the world.

He further mentioned two issues of cooperation to deal with terrorism and extremism. Claudio Cordone continued his speech and said that we should pay special attention to hate speech and help the Iraqi government in creating a national strategy to deal with hate speech.

In another part of his speech, he pointed out the necessity of punishing the perpetrators of terrorist crimes and said: holding fair trials leads to building trust among communities and promoting peaceful coexistence.
