The West’s inattention to the Hague Court’s advisory ruling on the occupation of the Zionist regime

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - Western countries have not yet taken effective action since the advisory verdict of the International Court of Justice was issued regarding the occupation of the Zionist regime in Palestinian lands.

According to Mizan News Agency, Amnesty International has recently sent a letter to Josep Borrell, the head of the European Union’s foreign policy, and the foreign ministers of the Union regarding the occupation of the Zionist regime and the need to implement the Hague Court’s advisory ruling on this matter.

In this letter, the European Union is asked to ensure that the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on July 19, 2024 (July 29) is translated into effective policies to end the violations of international law by the Zionist regime.

The International Court of Justice is often referred to as the World Court because it is the highest judicial body in the United Nations system and is the main infrastructure of international law after World War II.

In this letter, Yves Geddy, director of Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office, wrote: The European Union has known for a long time that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, is occupied by Israel; However, EU policies and procedures towards Israel fail to address the illegality of Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the serious violation of the Covenant to maintain this occupation.

Geddi added: the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice leaves no room for doubt; Israel’s occupation as well as settlement policy, land confiscation and exploitation of natural resources of the occupied Palestinian lands are illegal; Israel’s discriminatory policies, laws, and actions against Palestinians violate laws prohibiting racial discrimination and apartheid.

The Court’s findings clearly point to the violation of international laws committed by the Zionist regime and the obligations of third countries not to legitimize or provide any assistance to the illegal behavior of this regime.

The provision of weapons and equipment by EU member states, as well as their trade and investment with the illegal settlements of the Zionist regime, makes it possible for this regime to violate international laws and is contrary to their obligations based on international laws.

The ongoing bombardment of the Gaza Strip amid the clear threat of genocide, the deadly escalation of Israeli-backed settler violence, and the recent military offensive in the West Bank are all side effects of the illegal occupation and decades of impunity from EU inaction.

The disregard of the western countries for the international rulings continues while, for example, the Zionist settlers last week destroyed 47 agricultural infrastructures and houses in the Tayyaba region, west of Hebron, south of the West Bank.

The Jacobin base wrote in an article: The main point is that the Hague Court recognized Israel’s long-term military occupation of the Palestinian land as illegal and said that this regime is obliged to end its illegal presence in this land.

This verdict was issued based on a number of very serious violations of the fundamental rules of international law caused by the policies and actions of this regime in the occupied territories.

This is the first time that the court has made such a clear decision that the occupation of the Zionist regime is illegal.

This site also wrote that the court’s findings that the policies and actions of the Zionist regime violated human rights laws regarding racial segregation and apartheid are significant.

Meanwhile, Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, in his speech on the occasion of the opening of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, called on countries to act in response to the Zionist regime’s blatant disregard for international laws in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Turk said: ending this war and preventing a full-scale regional conflict is an absolute and urgent priority; Countries should not and cannot accept open disregard for international laws, including the binding decisions of the Security Council and the orders of the International Court of Justice, neither now nor at any other time.

This senior UN human rights official then called the occupation of the Zionist regime illegal and said that this situation should be dealt with comprehensively, citing the advisory opinion of the Hague Court this July.
