Lebanon is currently grappling with multiple crises. On the one hand, the ongoing Israeli bombings and on the other, economic and social problems have made the situation extremely difficult for children and families. Populous areas such as the Bekaa and Baalbek are severely affected by these attacks, and children in these areas face not only physical dangers, but also food shortages and lack of access to education.
More than half of children under the age of 2 in eastern Lebanon face severe food insecurity. The economic crisis and teachers’ strikes have exacerbated the educational situation. Despite the ceasefire announcement, more than 25% of children are still not in school. UNICEF’s stance not only highlights the humanitarian dimensions of the crisis, but also points to the educational and social challenges in Lebanon.
