The ceremony for commemorating “Paragons of Patience” was held in the memory of 17 thousand Iranian victims of terrorism.
At a ceremony held on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribune to the Victims of Terrorism at Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, the participants emphasized the role of the victims of terror in the cultural confrontation with terrorism and honored the families of the victims, Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism reports.
Out of 17,000 assassinated victims in the country, more than 800 were from Isfahan. So, this province is one of the great victims of terrorism in Iran.
On July 16, 2011, the UN Human Rights Council named August 19 the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribune to the Victims of Terrorism in its Resolution and called on all member states, United Nations organizations and other international bodies to commemorate the Day. The ceremony dubbed “Paragons of Patience” was held on the occasion of this day by Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism and Shakhehaye Zeytoun attended by families of victims of terrorism, bishop at the Armenian diocese of Isfahan and southern Iran, Mr. Al-Khayat from Cultural Consultation of the Republic of Iraq, Carlo Corbocci, the prominent Italian lawyer, Alexander Azadgan from the United States, and Counselor of the embassy of Kazakhstan.
Anania Gojanian, senior bishop at the Armenian diocese of Isfahan, commemorated the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribune to the Victims of Terrorism and stated the consequences of terrorism lead to the problems which the contemporary world confronts. It threatens the security of most states.
“We have gathered to speak about such anti-divine and anti-human and immoral acts so that the world can hear our voice; and we call on the world to fight terrorism, violence, and extremism of the terrorist and takfiri groups and their anti-social acts, which run counter to God’s will and providence”, he said.
Mr. Carlo Corbocci, the prominent international lawyer pointed out that the best approach to terrorism and victims of terrorism is a true understanding of how the phenomenon of terrorism emerges and takes power. Who are those behind terrorism and what are their aims? Why is Islam introduced as the symbol of terrorism? He had one message for the victims and one message for the perpetrators. “My message for the victims is a verse from the Holy Qur’an which says “and never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision”. And my message for the perpetrators who are exploited by the terrorists is that you have killed your victims, but you should know they are alive and you are dead although you are alive. ”
Mr. Al-Khayat, the representative of Cultural Consultation of the Republic of Iraq emphasized the necessity of commemoration of victims of terrorism and introduced Iraqi nation and state as one of the major victims of terrorism. He stated that victims of terrorism are examples of patience and commemorating victims of terrorism and symbolizing them are basis for cultural confrontation with terrorism. In fact, the terrorists are opposed to peace, security and human rights. They seek to destroy human rights and the victims are sacrificed for them. Celebrating victims of terrorism is a “NO” to violence, extremism and terrorism.
Mr. Al-Khayat pointed out the damages inflicted by terrorism and the massacre of over 1700 people by ISIS in Camp Speicher.
Alexander Azadgan, professor of South California said that commemorating victims of terrorism creates affection as it is emphasized in Divine Religions, including Christianity. The recent terrorist attack in Barcelona indicates the spread of terrorism which increases the number of victims. The international community should end all the terrorist crimes.
Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism believes that tribune to the victims of terrorism serves to humiliate the inhuman terrorists’ behavior. It leads to creation of affection among people all over the world toward the victims of terrorism. It is a cultural confrontation with terrorism.
