Following the UN Secretary General and Security Council’s remarks on the necessity of the trial of the perpetrators of the crime in Paktia and Ghazni, ADVT welcomes the remarks in a letter and calls on the UN to establish a mechanism for the trial of the perpetrators of such crimes all over the world. ADVT believes that it would be an effective measure to counter the heinous phenomenon of terrorism.
Your Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres
Secretary General of the United Nations
Human history has always witnessed small and great disasters of cruelty to human beings. They make the history so dark and painful that even its review in other times may dampen people’s spirit. Unfortunately, the disasters still happen.
The takfir culture as the main basis for the promotion of violence and extremism in the form of terrorism organization has challenged the international community’s order and coherence throughout the world. It has led to a decline both in morality and in the application of spiritual values to protect human dignity and humanity. According to official statistics, violations of basic human rights are rapidly increasing in a way that may put the future of human being to danger from the perspective of the health of the generations.
The strategy of “terrorism organization” has gone beyond a simple difference of manner and extremist ideology; it has formed an advanced organization with modern and hidden equipment. It plays role behind contradictory definitions and incoherent political stands as an instrument to impose the hegemonic will on the oppressed and independent nations. Regardless of different titles, it is important to pay attention to this structure as a threat to global peace and security.
In order to prevent the spread of terrorism, we need to stand up for the human rights of the victims of terrorism and the survivors of these disasters with supportive policies and provide effective litigation to prosecute and punish the perpetrators and their supporters through the establishment of an international court aimed at the victims’ access to justice and a guarantee of non-recurrence of the crimes.
As a member of civil society and human rights advocate, which has been working to defend the rights of millions of people affected by terrorism in the world and thousands of victims and survivors of terrorist catastrophes in Iran for many years, Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism (ADVT) has invested considerable effort both at national and international level. ADVT believes the United Nations’ views on protecting global peace and security are very effective and it welcomes Your Excellency’s recent statements and Security Council’s stance on the condemnation of the Paktia and Ghazni terrorist incidents in Afghanistan. ADVT calls for the establishment of mechanisms and necessary requirements for realization of justice.
The trial and punishment of terrorism organization is the highest priority to defend the human rights of the victims of terrorism, which will be in line with the international peace and security.
The necessity to form an international consensus strengthens the fight against this heinous phenomenon. ADVT, in complete agreement with Your Excellency and the Security Council, makes such a request for all the crimes against human beings, and we also announce that “the cycle of violence must end and the dialogue commence”. We emphasize that the perpetrators must go on trial quickly and believe that as long as the ringleaders and theorists of crimes against humanity do not stand trial, the crimes will continue more horrificly than ever.
