The International Children’s Movement for Children on behalf of children affected by terrorism worldwide has called on Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, to support children impacted by terrorism and the establishment of appropriate mechanisms to protect children from the heinous phenomenon.
The following is the text of the statement which was read at the 2nd ceremony of Lawsuit for Child Victims of Terrorism.
Lawsuit; An Effective Mechanism to Protect Children Affected by Terrorism
Children are like saplings which are the source of joy for human society. Childhood is the most critical period for every human being in which any memory, good or bad, leaves an everlasting image on his life. Delicacy and innocence of children entail sincerity, peace, and cheerfulness. But, today the devilish people have deprived millions of children of these fundamental rights through violence and extremism and brought them fear and insecurity and they are victimized by their ominous aspirations.
The sufferings of children from extremism and violence have frequently been repeated from one generation to the next, and it has repeatedly disgraced humanity; what exacerbates this pain is the lack of accountability of the perpetrators and supporters of the crimes against children in the world.
The pain of the child victims of terrorism is the common cause of all honorable people in the world, but some nations such as Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Yemen feel this pain more than others because it has been expanding insecurity and destruction and because it has affected millions of children for many years.
The international community has no other means for protecting children, aside from expressing concern and condemning crimes against children. Millions of displaced, injured, murdered innocent children clearly indicate the weakness of the international community’s plans to defend children’s rights facing terrorist armed conflict.
Your Excellency’s statement in your recent message about the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen and your disappointment with Saudi Arabia’s cooperation in helping the Yemeni people is another proof for the claim.
We, the child victims of terrorism, recognize lawsuit for child victims of terrorism as an effective mechanism for protecting children affected by extremism and we believe that crimes against children will not be stopped until the perpetrators of child rights violations are held accountable. Lawsuit is a mechanism in which perpetrators express the truth behind the crime in a legal process and reveal the hidden actors for public opinion in guiding and planning crimes against human beings. And these facts bring peace to the injured and the community, and access to justice is ultimately safeguarded as a guarantee for preventing the recurrence of crimes.
Finally, we entreat Your Excellency and other officials and authorities at the national and international levels to help us achieve the goals of this international project, the creation of a safe world for children.
