Seventh Moscow Format Meeting : From Emphasis on Combating Terrorism to Concerns Over US Return to Afghanistan
Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – According to Shafaqna Afghanistan, the seventh Moscow Format meeting was held in the Russian capital with the presence of representatives of the Taliban, Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that a representative of Belarus was also present at the meeting as a “guest”. Amir Khan Mottaki, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, participated in this meeting for the first time as an official member of the “Moscow Format”. He had attended the sixth meeting of this format last year as a “guest”.
After recognizing the Taliban government in Afghanistan and removing their name from its list of terrorist groups, Russia has made this group a member of the Moscow Format.
The Moscow Format meeting is one of the important regional meetings hosted by Russia every year on the situation in Afghanistan.
The participants of the 7th Moscow Format Summit, in their final declaration, have considered terrorism a serious threat to the security of Afghanistan, the region and the world. They have also said that the Taliban should be supported in effectively combating terrorism and preventing terrorists from using Afghan soil against neighboring countries and beyond. They have also called for strengthening anti-terrorism cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
