| Statement of meeting on “supporting women as victims of terrorism” Women victims of terrorism as messengers of peace Women constitute the main formative pillar of the family and consequently the human society, in such a way that doctrines and religious sayings place a critical role in this entity as to pass the rode of eternal bliss or Calamity. Accordingly, women effectiveness analysis, negatively or positively, would lead to a permanent effect on the generations as well as the human societies. Undoubtedly, the development and exultation of the world communities has directly its origin on the precious success of this creation. Consequently, every direct or indirect Sociological and Physical harm to the above mentioned segment within a society would lead to the irreversible consequence on the future generations. Thus, “supporting women victims of terror” is of paramount importance. United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace. This international symbol day is the reminiscent of one of the most sorrowful violence against innocent and helpless women in US. On this day, a number of of women workers were killed and wounded in a horrible tragedy. This international day with such a historical backgrounds, is a great opportunity for demonstrating innocence of women who have been victimized by the terrorism and violent extremism, and also a precious chance to express solidarity to the women affected, mothers and wives having lost their loved ones felt violence extremism deep inside their heart. In order to construct another dialogue and the counter-narrative debates about the rights of women suffering the destructive effect of terrorism and violent extremism in the international arena, Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism held an expert meeting on ” examination and analysis of the united nations function in Support of Women Victims of Terror” attended by law Professors , students of faculty of law and political science , human rights activists and a number of women victims of terror including Ms. Golrokh Mehri, a Zoroastrian minority as a symbol of 34 years of resilience and satisfaction. There is a difference between the current status and desired one in UN activities in supporting women victims of terror. The current situation reveals that UN has taken some positive steps towards the question of violence against the women victims of terror, in particular. But this support is subdominant meaning a response has been provided by the United Nations according to a specific situation such as war, civil unrest, and threats to international peace and security. The core part of the resolutions or reports of the deputy secretaries-general have dealt with the assassination of women not as an independent issue, but as a consequential issue upon other specific situations such as insurgency or breach of international peace and security. The United Nations has taken undeniable steps to empower women amounting to as a profound significance in achieving objectives of Sustainable Development and empowerment of the international community. Therefore, the following demands are put forth as basis of the meeting demonstrating the guidelines of human rights activists and women victims of terrorism directed to the international organizations. 1- Duo the purposes of the UN declared in Article 1 of its Charter “To achieve international co-operation … in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.” It is essential that the United Nations put the inherent support of women as victims of terrorism on the agenda, not only in the cluster of certain situations but as an objective and independent one. 2- The recognition of the need to shift the focus from men-centered activities to the woman-centered continues to be felt throughout the world. The entire structure of world community, and core relations between men and women within it, had to be re-evaluated. Only by such a fundamental restructuring of world community and its institutions could women be fully empowered to take their rightful place. The establishment of an international court with women judges is a demand posed by women as victims of terrorism making their voice heard in the international tribunals. 3- Every woman deserves the fundamental right to a proper health care, as it is critical not only to her own well-being, but also to the well-being of our world as stated in Millennium Development Goal 5- which leads to healthier women, stronger families, and more stable, prosperous communities. Investing in health care system — in particular, maternal health services as well as physical medical treatment dedicated to women as victims of terror — are a cross-cutting and cost-effective solution to achieving progress on all of the Millennium Development Goals directed at women. |
