Report on the Statement of Zeid Raad Al Hussein on Widespread Human Rights Violations in South Sudan
In an statement issued by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, Widespread human rights violations and abuses committed in South Sudan by all parties to the conflict since December 2013 has been cited as a strike to the peace process, including hundreds of extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, sexual violence, forced recruitment and indiscriminate attacks against civilians, in which he urges an end to all such cases as a solution to come out of this terrible period.
In this statement Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein declares that all parties to the conflict have intentionally attacked traditional safe havens, such as places of worship, hospitals and, from time to time, United Nations bases. He continues to reveal that such operations may have been a deliberate strategy by all parties to the conflict aimed at depriving civilians of any source of livelihood with a view to forcing their displacement.
“Accountability and justice sound like empty words in such a bleak landscape, but they are essential if South Sudan is to come out of this terrible period,” Zeid added at the end of this statement.

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism believes that the conduction of parties to the conflict in the most youngest state of the world, according to the UN special reporters in south sedan’s affairs, to hinder the humanitarian access to different areas constitutes violation of the Geneva Conventions (IV) and also International human rights Law paving the ground to scale up the starvation danger.
According to the United Nation’ Statistics, thousands, up to now, have been killed and 2 million displaced, besides that 700 thousands taken refuge to the neighboring countries. Hence, ADVT alongside of other international human rights organizations calls for all parties to the conflicts to remove all obstacles in the path of humanitarian assistance. Since, it is incumbent upon the members of the International Support Groups to follow through on their commitment to push for safe, sustained and unimpeded humanitarian access throughout south Sudan, and the immediate cessation of any use of weapons.
