Human Dignity is the Basis of Human Rights

On the occasion of Human Rights Day, Iranian victims of terrorism addressed UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.

The years after World War ІІ, which were full of fear and hope, were the origins of establishment of international bodies. States followed human dignity by statements, conventions, and international documents, including The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on 10 December 1948 which was a turning point in the history.

Although wars and crimes still exist and human dignity is respected more in the documents of international bodies, commemorating the day is the remembrance of the difficulties which the international community has tolerated to reach to Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But, it is an opportunity for reaffirming the treaty among human rights activists who have sympathy for protecting the human dignity and achieving peace in the world.

We cannot ignore the fact that after 67 year of adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the international community looks to the future with fear and hope; fearing from war, crime, threat and terror and hope for the future in which respecting human rights is not a pretext for illegitimate demands, but it is a current reality in the world. Today, human beings hope for a world in which “World without Terror” is not just a slogan and no one is victimized by injustice, war, violence, and terrorism.

As an active civil society in the field of defending human rights of victims of terrorism Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism believes the way which has followed in defending victims of terrorism, commemorates the day which is a turning point in defending human dignity, and states that the situation of humanitarian disaster has deteriorated in the world and it is one of the serious concerns of human rights activists. For instance, the three-year-old girl, Fatemeh Taleghani was burnt in the fire of terrorism 35 years ago and it left an eternal discomfort for her family and community. The crime cannot be explained by any political consideration and the victims of terrorism call on the international community and the human rights body to litigate the issue in order to achieve justice and heal their pain.
