Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – German authorities said on Thursday that they had arrested a French woman for allegedly committing war crimes in Syria after joining the ISIS terrorist organization.
A German federal prosecutor explained that the woman, identified only as Samra N., was arrested. In line with German privacy rules, on Tuesday in the city of Trier, west of the country.
The woman is suspected of participating as a member of two foreign terrorist organizations when she was a teenager, according to a prosecutor’s statement.
She allegedly traveled to Syria in September 2013, where she first joined the Al-Nusra Front and married one of the group’s fighters, and in November 2013, the couple joined the extremist organization ISIS.
While in Syria, Samra allegedly tried to convince people living in Germany to also go to Syria to become members of the Al-Nusra Front. It also temporarily housed a woman who was persuaded to leave the country in this way.
According to the indictment, the suspect helped her husband buy military equipment for the organization.
On two occasions, when her husband was away on combat missions, she stayed in homes occupied by ISIS after the expulsion of indigenous people, which Germany considers a “war crime against property.”
Samra returned to Germany at the beginning of 2014, but remained a member of ISIS until at least February 2015, according to the public prosecution.
It was not immediately clear why she went to Germany as a French citizen.
