The Terrorism Index in Africa for 2023 revealed a noticeable decline in the operations of these organizations in several countries, after the wave of setbacks suffered by their organizations and the painful strikes directed at them by African governments. However, on the other hand, the pace of terrorism has increased in some other African countries that are witnessing internal conflicts and stifling economic crises. .
The Observatory continued in its report that terrorist organizations in Africa claimed responsibility for a total of 361 terrorist operations, causing 3,360 casualties, 913 injuries, and the kidnapping of 382 others, in addition to the displacement of thousands of people from their areas of residence.
According to the statistics of the Al-Azhar Observatory for Countering Extremism regarding terrorist operations in 2023, it was found that the East and Horn of Africa region came in first place as a result of being exposed to 140 terrorist operations, followed by the Sahel and Sahara region, which was subjected to 121 terrorist attacks, then the West Africa region. The number of terrorist operations there reached 60, while the Central African region ranked fourth. 40 terrorist operations.
In terms of efforts to combat terrorist organizations, the death toll of terrorist elements reached 6,628 people and 2,576 detainees, in addition to the surrender of 2,381 others.
According to this indicator, which measures the impact of terrorism according to the number of attacks and victims, it can be said that deaths resulting from terrorism in the three years have decreased significantly.
