In part of this statement, terrorism and extremism continue to kill and injure thousands of innocent people every year. Terrorist attacks and the violent and hateful ideologies that lead to those attacks are against the basic values of our societies and are against democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
On the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Terrorism, the Council of Europe pays tribute to the victims, survivors and families of those who have been injured or lost their loved ones in terrorist acts around the world.
We also pay tribute to those who help victims of terrorism, from law enforcement to organizations that provide long-term assistance to victims, the statement concluded.
