UNICEF: Afghanistan needs urgent and extensive assistance in 2026
Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - Tajuddin Oywali, the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, announced that Afghanistan remains on the list of countries that need urgent and extensive humanitarian assistance in 2026, and that continued financial support is vital to saving the lives of millions of children and families.

According to the Afghan Voice News Agency (AVA), Oywali reported that continued funding will help UNICEF Afghanistan provide health care to 12 million people.
He added that by providing this assistance, emergency education could be provided to 5.5 million children and nearly 10 million children could be protected from diseases.
Previously, UNICEF reported that in 2025, due to a 72% budget cut, their activities in 20 countries around the world, including Afghanistan, were limited.
The United Nations added in its reports that sustainable financial support plays a key role in ensuring children and families’ access to vital services and responding to humanitarian crises, and can ensure the lives and health of millions of people.
