Collective Security Treaty warns of terrorism threat from Afghanistan

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – According to DID News Agency, the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization warned about the widespread activity of extremist groups in Afghanistan, calling this situation a serious threat to the security of the region and the countries of Central Asia.

Andrey Serdikov , the head of the organization’s joint staff, announced that numerous international terrorist groups have an active presence in Afghanistan, which has increased the risk of insecurity and extremism spreading to neighboring countries. According to him, the continued activity of these groups will have a direct and negative impact on regional stability.

Serdikov emphasized in a press conference that the threats emanating from Afghanistan are particularly aimed at Central Asian countries and could weaken the security of the southern borders of the members of this alliance.

At the same time, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu described the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan as “the main focus of security challenges” for the organization’s members. He said the southern borders, especially in relation to Afghanistan, remain the most important source of security threats.

According to announced statistics, at least 17 armed conflicts occurred along the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border last year, indicating the fragility of security in this region.
