Amnesty International Condemns US Reception of Netanyahu

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism- Amnesty International condemned in a statement the US government's reception of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

According to IRNA from Al Jazeera, the statement said: By welcoming Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, the US is showing its disregard for international justice.

The statement added: The Biden administration has mocked all international efforts to bring justice to Palestine, and now Donald Trump has twice as much welcomed the first foreign leader to come to the White House since he took office by not arresting Netanyahu or investigating him.

Amnesty International stressed in the statement that the US is obliged under the Geneva Conventions to prosecute or bring to justice those accused of war crimes.

The statement continued: There should be no safe haven for those accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The statement added: There is abundant evidence that US weapons have played a role in war crimes, but the US continues to fail to live up to its commitments to prevent genocide and knows that its weapons are being used in Israel’s military attacks on Gaza.

News sources previously reported that following the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the US, protest banners were placed near the US Capitol condemning his presence in the country for crimes against the people of Gaza.

Netanyahu flew to the United States on Sunday, February 4, to meet with Trump for the first time since his return to the White House.

US news network CNN previously reported that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are preparing for an “unprecedented” meeting on Gaza, Iran and normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia.

CNN added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump are likely to appear to be in sync publicly when they meet on Tuesday afternoon, but behind closed doors they will face sharp political differences.

“You will see a very friendly exterior, but in private, this is an unprecedented meeting,” a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
