Majority of the casualties of mines in Afghanistan are children

Manager of the informing about mine dangers and helping the victims section in the Afghanistan mine cleansing administration said: monthly, 80 to 140 people in Afghanistan are been killed or injured by mine explosions and 65% of them are children.

Based on Irna, Habib Khan Zazai in his travel to Taibad and visiting the Center of preinforming the dangers of mines in the Dogharon border, and in his session with Red Cross and Red Crescent said: now, four county and 257 cities in Afghanistan are exposed to mines and unexploded bombs.

He added that: from the whole areas of Afghanistan which have explosive materials on earth, only 2800 km are been cleansed.

Zazai added: south, SouthEast, East, North and center of Afghanistan and especially the city of Kabul are the areas that have most explosive materials in them.

He asserted that the most of mines and unexploded bombs are IEDs and added that: 20% of the peoples who are been exposed to these materials become killed.

In that session, governor of Taibad said: Preinforming center in the Red Crescent in Taibad has been activated from the 2005 in Dogharon border and spends 2.6 billion Rials , yearly, for educating the people who want to enter Afghanistan.

Hossein SherafatiRad said that the education of identifying various mines and unexploded bombs, the way of treating the victims, recognizing the colors, signs and places of mined lands are the most important fields to be educated.

 

 

He added, based on the statistics of the Afghanistan Mine Center, from 2005, there are 172 people who have been killed by mines, monthly. After educations, these number has decreased to 40 people, monthly.

Governor of Taibad said: from the beginning of the establishment of this center till to 2018, 347818 Afghani men and women have received this center services.

City of Taibad is located in 225 km from the southeast of Mashhad and has 90 km common border with Afghanistan.
