ADVT participated in 52nd meeting of the Human Rights Council

A delegation from the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism, consisting of families of victims of terrorist incidents in Iran, attended the 52nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mrs. Manijeh Safiari and Elham Jalizawi participated in the 52nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland as a delegation of the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism.

Manijeh Safiari, a veteran of the terrorist bombing in Tehran’s bazaar, said in an interview with the media, present at the summit, that by granting asylum to the members of MEK terrorist group, Western governments are preventing the execution of justice and the access of terror victims to their rights. Contrary to the 1951 refugee convention, the Albanian government has given asylum to the members of MEK terrorist group and provided grounds for their terrorist and anti-human activities.

Elham Jalizawi, the daughter of Martyr Jalal Jalizawi, one of the martyrs of the MEK terrorist group mortar attacks in Ahvaz city in 1999, also stated that the victims of terror are the most oppressed victims who can play a pivotal role in countering terrorism. But this role is not recognized by international organizations and governments.

In this meeting, the statement of the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism was also read under the title of “double standards in the protection of human rights and the fight against terrorism”. In a part of this statement, it is stated: We ask the Human Rights Council to establish an international commission of inquiry to investigate the issue of granting asylum in order to stop the normalization of the activities of terrorist groups supported by governments and to comply with the provisions of the 1951 Refugee Convention and to end the impunity of terrorist criminals and the members of the MEK terrorist group in Albania.

In addition to attending the meeting and reading the statement, the delegation of the association met and talked with several UN officials, personalities and human rights activists.

The 52nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held from March 8 to April 15 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
