Protest for Palestine in Johannesburg

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – The people of Palestine have been living under a form of apartheid for over 50 years now.

The largest Palestine human rights organization in the African continent Africa for Palestine held a successful protest action in Johannesburg recently as part of the international Al Quds Day actions and included in their demands, the implementation of the Johannesburg Council’s resolution to change Sandton Drive to Leila Khaled Drive and the government to take harsher measures against Apartheid Israel.

The protest was endorsed by South Africans from various walks of life and political formations. Over 35 South African organisations, including trade unions, women’s groups, youth formations, and political parties endorsed and participated in the protest which attracted approximately 500 participants.

When the call for the protest was made, Africa4Palesine argued that since the violent escalation of aggression by Israel against Palestinian worshippers at the Al Aqsa compound, things have only worsened. Videos and images of Palestinian worshippers being beaten, harassed, unilaterally arrested and others killed made it urgent for South Africans to show their disdain for Israel’s brutal military occupation of Palestine.
