The court announced that it has reduced the sentences of Hina Bashir Baig and Sadia Anwar Sheikh. The two were accused of collaborating with the ISIS Khorasan terrorist group.
One of the judges of the court stated that in this case, the two used fake identities to use cyberspace and provided their electronic devices to their wives.
In a statement, the Delhi High Court stated that the spread of crimes through the Internet and cyberspace should not be ignored and the misuse of social media by terrorists should be taken into account while pronouncing the sentence.
According to the court, the treatment of terrorists who use cyberspace should be different from the treatment of those who unknowingly join the terrorist group. The statement also stated that the financing of terrorism through Bitcoin and the use of journalistic identities to publish materials in defense of terrorism should also be given serious attention.
In addition to the facilities that cyberspace provides to its audience, the use of this space by terrorists has become a national security risk for many countries. The success of ISIS terrorists in using the social network Twitter (current X) to publish criminal content has not been forgotten.
