The decision of the International Court of Justice to stop the Rafah operation

The Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - The International Court of Justice ruled on South Africa's request to stop the aggression against Gaza and emphasized: Israel must immediately stop its military attack on Rafah.

According to ISNA, the International Court of Justice ordered the Zionist regime to stop the military attack on Rafah with the agreement of 13 of its members against 2 votes against.

The head of the International Court of Justice said: South Africa asked the court to take more measures in accordance with the developments of the military operation in Rafah.

The head of the International Court of Justice further added: The court notes that the humanitarian situation in Rafah is catastrophic after weeks of bombing. Israel’s ground attack on Rafah is still ongoing and has led to another wave of displacement.

Judge Nawaf Salam, the head of the International Court of Justice, emphasized: the temporary measures approved by the court in March do not fully respond to recent developments.

The head of the International Court of Justice also said: South Africa asked the court to use its jurisdiction and apply emergency measures to stop the war. The court reminds that the living conditions of the residents of the Gaza Strip have significantly worsened.

According to the statements of the head of the International Court of Justice, the court considers the military attack in Rafah as a dangerous development that adds to the suffering of the people. Since the beginning of the ground offensive on May 7, around 800 thousand people have been displaced from Rafah. Israel must refrain from any action that endangers the Palestinians.

The court noted that the humanitarian situation in Rafah is catastrophic after weeks of bombing. UN officials have constantly emphasized the dangers to which civilians are exposed in Rafah. The temporary measures taken do not completely resolve the consequences of the change in the situation in the Gaza Strip. The World Food Program has said that it is unable to provide aid to Rafah. Israel’s evacuation efforts have not been sufficient to reduce the risks of a ground attack on Rafah. Also, Israel’s actions – especially towards civilians – are not enough to reduce their risks.

According to the judgment of the Hague Court, Israel did not provide sufficient conditions to ensure the safety and preservation of the lives of the refugees and their transfer from Rafah to Al-Mawasi. The Court has found that the situation resulting from the Israeli attack on Rafah is an increasing danger to civilians. Circumstances require a change in our decision issued on March 28.
