Poland’s refusal to comply with international law; Netanyahu will not be arrested

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – According to Euronews Farsi, the Polish government has guaranteed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested if he attends the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp.

Polish President Andrzej Duda, a member of the opposition Law and Justice party, wrote a letter to the government this week asking that Benjamin Netanyahu not be arrested if he attends the Auschwitz memorial service on January 27, despite a ruling against him by the International Criminal Court.

Donald Tusk’s office issued a resolution stressing that the Polish government guarantees “the safe presence and participation of Israeli leaders at the Auschwitz memorial service.”

The resolution quotes the Polish prime minister as saying: “I confirm that any Israeli official, whether prime minister, president or education minister, who comes to Auschwitz to attend the Auschwitz memorial will be completely safe and will not be arrested.”

Donald Tusk stressed that the resolution was “specific” and ad hoc, applying only to the Auschwitz memorial. “At the same time, it is very important for us that Poland does not join the ranks of countries that openly intend to ignore the decisions of international courts.”

Last November, the International Criminal Court indicted Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister, along with Hamas leader Ibrahim al-Masri, for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the 15-month war in Gaza, and issued arrest warrants for them.

ICC member states, including Poland, are required to arrest suspects on their territory under arrest warrants; however, the ICC does not have the means to enforce the warrant.

The ICC has more than 120 member states, and some, including France and Hungary, have already said they will not arrest or detain Netanyahu. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has even said he intends to openly defy the arrest warrant by inviting Netanyahu to Budapest.

It is not yet clear whether Netanyahu will attend the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, scheduled for later this month. Although he has attended previous anniversaries of the event.

The ceremony will be held in Auschwitz, a city occupied by Germany during World War II where the Nazis set up their most notorious death camp.

Poland had previously stated that it respects the decision of the International Criminal Court. In a previous report published on the forum’s website, it was noted that it would be necessary to wait and see whether this decision would be implemented or not. Now, with the publication of this news, it has become clear that that previous doubt was correct. The Holocaust and Auschwitz have become excuses for those who are now genocide Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The presence of a war criminal like Netanyahu at this ceremony is a clear sign of the duplicity of international rules. Rules that were supposed to bring peace and security to humanity, but now seem to be seeking impunity for war criminals like Benjamin Netanyahu in the guise of Holocaust victims. This ceremony will be clear evidence of the criminal nature of international Zionism.
