The 33rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will be under way until 30 September 2016, at the Palais des Nations, Room XX, in Geneva, Switzerland, with the message of “victims of terrorism: an effective potential in confronting terrorism”. Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism also participated in this round of sessions in order to make an attempt to implement human rights objectives to victims of terrorism as cultural confrontation with terrorism, conducting some fruitful negotiations with UN authorities, NGOs and representatives of states holding possession in UNHRC.
ADVT’s delegation in the side line of ordinary sessions of UNHRC held a discussion panel with the subject of “UN Actions in Curbing Terrorism; Recommendations for Further Efficacy”. Some human rights experts as well as members of NGO’s participated in this panel in order to examine the role of UN in Preserving and Strengthening confrontation with terrorism and to make recommendations for further efficacy on UN in curbing terrorism.
Propositional solutions were as fallowing:
Preventing UN from granting asylum to terrorists, the need for establishing an international fund to support and promote the scientific level of victims of terrorism, transparent and immediate response in condemning terrorist actions, and pressure on governments by UN in order to present their reports of actions toward fighting against terrorism and providing the ground for bringing terrorist to justice.
The Human Rights Council holds three regular sessions a year, for a total of at least ten weeks. They take place in March (four weeks), June (three weeks) and September (three weeks).
