New UNAMA report on the worrying human rights situation in Afghanistan

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has provided disturbing details about extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and torture against officials and forces of the former Afghan government in its new report on the human rights situation in the country.

According to the report , at least 14 former government forces were killed in the last three months of 2025. The UN-affiliated body emphasized that these individuals were targeted by violence after returning from neighboring countries such as Iran and Pakistan.

In addition to the killings, 28 cases of arbitrary arrest and detention and at least seven cases of torture and ill-treatment were recorded against this group during this period. Many of these individuals have faced gross violations of their basic rights after their forced or voluntary return to Afghanistan. This report is part of a broader trend of human rights violations in Afghanistan.

The UNAMA report also notes severe restrictions on women’s work and movement, continued executions and public flogging, and frequent disruptions to internet and telecommunications services in the country. These incidents indicate a worsening socio-security environment and systematic violations of international human rights obligations in Afghanistan. UNAMA calls for urgent action to end this violence and for international support for vulnerable populations.
