Amnesty International Report: Israel’s Actions in Gaza Are Genocide
Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – According to Euronews Persian, Amnesty International accused Israel of "committing genocide" against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war last year, saying the organization's new report is a wake-up call for the international community.
The London-based human rights organization said its findings were based on “inhumane and genocidal statements by Israeli government and military officials,” satellite images documenting the destruction, fieldwork and field reports from people in the Gaza Strip.
“Month after month, Israel has increasingly treated Palestinians as subhuman, unworthy of human rights and dignity. They have demonstrated their intent to physically destroy the people of Gaza,” Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International’s director, said in a statement.
“Our damning findings should serve as a wake-up call for the international community: this is genocide.” It must stop immediately.
Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed more than 44,500 people, more than half of them children and women.
The 300-page Amnesty International report notes that Israel has repeatedly and deliberately targeted civilians or civilian infrastructure where no Hamas or militants are present. It also says that the use of heavy explosive weapons with a wide radius of destruction in densely populated residential areas, the blocking of essential aid and the displacement of 90 percent of Gaza’s 2.4 million population all contradict Israel’s claims.
Amnesty International also says that Palestinians are exposed to malnutrition, hunger and disease and are at risk of a slow and calculated death.
The Amnesty International report also cited dozens of calls by Israeli officials and soldiers to destroy, demolish, burn or obliterate the Gaza Strip.
Callamard said in another part of her speech: “States must stop pretending to be unable to end the Israeli occupation, pretending to be unable to end apartheid and stop the genocide in Gaza. States that transfer arms to Israel are violating their obligations to prevent genocide under the Convention and are at risk of complicity.”
