The appointment of Iran’s representative in Geneva as the chairman of the meeting of the Human Rights Council Social Forum

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – Ali Bahraini, the permanent representative of Iran in the United Nations Human Rights Council, was elected as the chairman of the meeting of the Social Assembly of the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2023.

Vaclav Balek, the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council, announced in a letter to the members of the Council on Wednesday, May 10, that Ali Bahraini, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, will be the chairman of the two-day meeting of the Social Assembly of the Human Rights Council. This meeting will be held on the 2nd and 3rd of November.

The Social forum of the United Nations Human Rights Council is held every year with the presence of members of the United Nations, non-governmental organizations and international institutions. This year’s theme of this meeting is the role of science, technology and innovation in promoting human rights.

This appointment is a nullification of the attempt to isolate Iran in human rights forums, and it has been criticized by some opponents of the Islamic Republic that, based on the letter sent by the presidency of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the process of electing the president of the forum is based on the proposal of presidential candidates. It is done by the cooperating groups of the Human Rights Council and finally their approval by the head of the council.

In this way, such an appointment is supported by human rights groups cooperating with the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the objection to it has no legal aspect, and it is a media game by the opponents of the Islamic Republic in order to cover up the failure of their efforts in recent years.

This is despite the fact that the Zionist regime, as one of the main founders of these criticisms, is always criticized by international human rights forums due to its seventy-year occupation of the Palestinian lands and the apartheid regime against the Palestinian nation, and only because of its media dominance. Zionism, the anti-human rights reality of this regime is not taken into consideration.
