Iran Condemns France Hosting of Terrorist Group Conference

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemned France's hosting of a meeting of the terrorist group, the MKO, as a clear example of supporting terrorism and violating the French government's international legal obligation to prevent and combat terrorism.

Referring to the history of terrorist acts by the MKO group, which led to the martyrdom of thousands of innocent compatriots and the injury of thousands more, and recalling the group’s complicity with Saddam’s regime during the eight-year military aggression against Iran, the Foreign Ministry spokesman described the continued presence and activity of elements of this group in France as a violation of the international legal obligations of the French government in accordance with international conventions related to combating terrorism and UN Security Council Resolution 1373, as well as contrary to the “fundamental principles of international law concerning friendly relations and cooperation among states based on the UN Charter.” He emphasized that France’s appeasement and selective approach to terrorism is a “violating act” that gives rise to the international responsibility of the French government and is completely reprehensible and rejected in terms of morality and human rights standards.

Esmail Baghaei considered granting permission to a terrorist group to hold a meeting a clear example of participation in inciting violence, spreading hatred, and interfering in Iran’s internal affairs, and stated that such behavior on the part of the French government is in clear contradiction with the foundations of human rights and the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter. The Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized the need for all governments to adhere to their international legal obligations in the field of preventing and combating terrorism and refraining from any assistance to the organization and financing of terrorism, and called on the French government to fulfill these obligations.
