Here is the transcript of the Video Message of Vladimir Voronkov, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism
Terrorism is a most challenging issues of our time and serious threat to international peace and security. over the past five years ruthless terrorist attacks have killed thousands of peoples and injured many more in over one hundred countries shaking us all to the core. No country can consider itself immune with almost every nationality in the world falling victim to terrorist attacks including UN personnel. the ripple effects of terrorism harm families, communities and societies as a whole which must learn to live and struggle to overcome the burden and scares of terrorism. Today on the international day of remembrance of and tribute to the victims of terrorism we reaffirm our shared humanity and stand in solidarity with all victims and survivals of this global scorch. This day reminds us that the rights and needs of victims and survivors are not time-bound. we must do more to protect their rights and address their needs. This can be done by upholding the dignity of victims and survivors , providing them access to justice and allowing them to tell the truth. we need to ensure victims long term assistance including financial, legal, medical and psychosocial support. Our solidarity with victims need to be beyond the symbolic act once a year. by listening to their voices, respecting their rights and providing them with support and justice, every day, we honor their common humanity and strengthen our resilience against terrorism. I think each and every victim and survival are willing to speak out against terrorism. Your voices matter and your courage and resilience in the face of adversity is a lesson to all of us. Today and every day the United Nations stands in solidarity with you.
