Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism – According to the United Nations website, “The United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories condemned the continued Zionist regime’s occupation its attempt to annex the occupied territories in Palestine.
In its first report, the Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, stated due to the permanence and actual annexation policies of the Israeli cabinet, the occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal in terms of international law.
This three-member commission requested to refer the case to the International Criminal Court in The Hague regarding the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
The relevant commission emphasized that according to international humanitarian law, the occupation of a territory during war is a temporary situation and cannot deprive the occupied region of its independence and sovereignty.
Ms. Pillay, the chair of the commission, stated that the recent statements of the Secretary General and many member states have clearly shown that any attempt to unilaterally annex the territory of a country by another party is a violation of international law and ineffective. 143 member countries, including Israel, have voted in favor of the resolution of the General Assembly last week.
This UN official added this fundamental principle of the UN Charter will only be meaningful if it is applied all over the world, including in the occupied Palestinian territory.
This commission has asked the United Nations General Assembly to receive the advisory opinion of the International Criminal Court about the continued occupation of the Zionist regime.
The Zionist regime’s settlement in Palestinian areas, along with depriving the people of these areas of their basic rights and dispossessing Palestinians of their property and not allowing them to exploit the natural resources of their land, are among the things that the UN Commission of Inquiry has pointed out.
The Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, will present this report to the UN General Assembly on October 27.
