Australian war crimes whistleblower sentenced to prison

Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism - The former Australian army lawyer who exposed the Australian army's war crimes in Afghanistan has been sentenced to five years and eight months in prison.

Former Australian army lawyer David McBride was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison for “stealing and disclosing” documents related to the Afghan war, a High Court judge said .

In 2014 and 2015, he disclosed documents that became the basis for the Australian military’s war crimes case in Afghanistan.

The Australian government has claimed that the documents Mr McBride leaked threaten Australia’s security and defence.

Mr McBride pleaded guilty in November last year to three charges, including disclosing classified military information and passing it on to ABC journalists.

“David McBride has a good personality, but he seems to be obsessed with the correctness of his opinions,” the judge said.

Western governments claim to defend human rights while exposing their war crimes in their endless invasions, instead of defending the victim, they take revenge on those who exposed these crimes. However, disclosure of confidential information is required to investigate any crime, and it is a crime in Australian courts for a person to seek justice by disclosing confidential information. And that means promoting impunity and injustice in the place of justice
